Year 2022 ended in Italy as one of the best years for capital market investments, above all thanks to the rebound effect of real estate investment activity, which in the most acute period of the pandemic had instead experienced a sharp contraction. However, the end of the last quarter of last year had already announced a first sign of a slowdown in the closure of corporate transactions, which materialized in a not excessive manner in the first quarter of 2023.
Despite the framework of macroeconomic uncertainty, in the first quarter of 2023 Italy nevertheless recorded just under €1 billion in capital markets investments (€967 million), a volume which is certainly decreasing if compared with the same quarter of 2022 (€ 3.3 billion) and compared to the historical series of the last 10 years, but which does not differ much from the average of 1.5 billion euros of the last 5 years if we exclude 2022, a year of post-investment fibrillation as we have said -pandemic.
